Happy Valentines Day!

I hope that you all had a deliciously sweet Valentines Day! Dominic and I met up downtown after work and went out for a romantic Italian meal! We shared a caprese salad, and a margarita pizza! I had the best intentions on baking some red velvet cupcakes for dessert but I just ran out of time! Luckily there is always tomorrow!

Chevron Friendship Bracelets

What are your plans for the weekend? I have been feeling like doing something creative for the past little while, so this weekend I am planning to teach myself how to make a chevron friendship bracelet.
Honestly WTF has a great step-by-step tutorial that I have been wanting to try for a long time. And since I bought all of the required supplies this week, I am ready to go. Hopefully I will have a finished product to show you by Monday!! Have a great weekend!

If you haven't yet tried the deborah lippman sparkly nail polish line, I suggest you do. I had the pleasure of wearing 'some enchanted evening' and I liked it so much that I didn't want to take it off. The sparkles in the nail polish are subtle enough to not make you feel like a teeny bopper yet sparkly enough to make you feel completely glamorous! I Need Your Help!!

There is this fantastic store in Regina, Saskatchewan called Boutique Nico that opened last October. They are currently in the process of holding their first add campaign which also happens to be a model search. The great thing about this model search is that the models don't have to fit the mold of a typical model, but rather they are just normal people, like me that like to shop at Nico.

Contestants are required to upload a photo to Nico's facebook page and the top five people to get the most 'likes' and comments on their photo will be entered into a draw to decide who will get to do Nico's Spring Summer Ad Campaign.

Ana Egge and Bad Blood

I hope you had a wonderful weekend. We went over to the mainland for the weekend. And although I intended to do some shopping, I didn't end up buying anything! I usually don't buy unless I really lot it and this weekend nothing really spoke to me! It was however, so nice to be in the hustle and bustle of the city and I just enjoyed checking out the west coast style which I must say is drastically different that the east coast!

Anyways, I thought I would start off the week by sharing a song from Ana Egge. I have only recently been introduced to this artist and her but I am totally smitten. Plus, she was born in Saskatchewan which is a big bonus in my books!! So, if you are looking for some new tunes, be sure to check this out!

Ombre Hair Trend

A few years ago, I went into the salon to die my hair a bright red color. In order to do this, my stylist explained that I had to bleach my hair first so that the red would be the bright color we wanted it to be. As she proceeded to bleach my hair my scalp started to burn and it felt really uncomfortable. When I asked if this was normal, my stylist assured me that it was absolutely normal and everything would be ok. Despite me scalp still hurting when I walked out of the salon, my color did look fantastic.

It did however, take a few days for my scalp to get back to normal and I vowed that I would never die my hair lighter again. The experience also made me realize that if the harsh chemicals used to dye my hair were able to burn my scalp, than they are probably not that good for the rest of my body either and as a result I quit dyeing my hair. Now I have a urge to lighten up my hair and I am thinking that I may try out the ombre hair trend as the blondish color won't touch my scalp. Do you dye your hair? Why or why not? Do you have any hair horror stories? I would love to hear them?

What do you think about the trend? Do you like it or do you think it has had its time?

My little brother, well he is not so little as he is taller than me and is now 27 years old, but to me he will always be my little brother, is getting married this summer in the beautiful Canadian Rocky Mountains. And as such I am on the hunt for a dress to wear to the wedding. So, I will probably be posting a lot of pretty dresses that I find on my way.

I am pretty sure that I need to get my hands on one of these lovely pieces from the Lauren Moffat Spring 2012 collection. I think the entire line has the perfect combination of florals and pastels which are both so hot this season! Need I say more!

I got this Wildfox Couture Heart Sweater (purchased at Boutique Nico in Regina) from my sister for Christmas and I can't seem to get enough of it! Not only is it super comfy but it looks fantastic paired with a wide variety of looks, of which I will share at a later date. If you have never tried one of Wildfox's fantastic tops, I suggest you do as I am sure it will quickly become one of your favorite wardrobe staples.

On a side note, I just wanted to say that we have been enjoying Victoria and the beautiful weather that we have been having. We have had some amazing hikes in the forest and on the beach and I am looking forward to many more. Dominic has started his job and is absolutely loving it. And as for me, I am currently on a job hunt and hopefully will be able to find something soon.

DIY Hanging Plant Holder

I am looking for things to spruce up our new house here in Victoria and I think this lovely DIY from Refinery 21 would be a great addition to our cute little porch!!

Valentino Spring 2012 Couture

I must start by apologizing for my absence on the blog. However, we were in the process of moving across the country to Victoria, BC. And now that we are all settled into our sweet little cottage and we finally have internet, I am happy to say that I will be back to some regular posting.

I must also say that I am completely, perfectly and incandescently in love with the Valentino's Spring Couture Collection which was showcased yesterday in Paris. The high neck lines, the loosely cinched waists and the delicately embroidered material are all reminiscent of old world charm, of which I am a big fan. I think the collection screams elegance!

Reads Clothing Project

There is a new store in Saskatoon called Luna and Hill!! Since the store is focussed on selling socially and environmentally conscious clothing, it is right up Dominic's alley (only because I think he is the biggest and best environmentalist I know)!! Anyways, we found this cool line from LA there, called Reads Clothing Project which gives a book to a kid in need every time an item of clothing is sold. Not only does this whole trend of the consumer participating in giving to those in need, like TOMS shoes, make the consumer feel good but it actually helps a kid in need. So, I have to say that this is one trend I am going to buy into!

I hope your new year is going swimmingly! Dominic and I are still on holidays so we are enjoying our house while we do a few renovations! I do realize however that most people go back to work today, so I hope you have a great transition back to work after your relaxing holiday!

I first saw this shirt on the Free People website, at which point I immediately fell in love. And although my husband finds the shirt a bit "cheezy", it has inspired me to create numerous different rocker chic looks. I will post some more of the looks soon!!

If you don't have a holey, rocker inspired shirt, you could also achieve a classic rocker chic look by pairing a plain white over sized t-shirt with skinny jeans, a biker leather jacket, some flat black boots and of course some amazing layered jewelry!

One of my favorite things about Christmas is waking up in the morning and checking out my stocking. Since I met and moved in with Dominic, he has been the one filling up my stocking. Every year we surprise each other with new and luxurious socks and underwear. This year I woke up to a set of Hanky Panky's which are one size fits all and oh so comfortable. If you are in need of some new underwear or just feel like treating yourself you should go out and buy one or two or even a few of these!

I love everything about Christmas trees. To this day, I am just as excited to wake up and plug in the Christmas lights as I was when I was a little girl. Finding the perfect tree and decorating it as a family has always a big part of my family's Christmas tradition. The smell of pine and the ambiance of the Christmas lights are always an excellent way to start the day!

Almost every year since I was little, my mom would buy my sister and I a Christmas ornament that would some day hang on our own Christmas tree. Now I have an entire tree full of beautiful ornaments that remind of wonderful Christmas moments! This year my sister gave me this cute Eiffel tower as Paris is currently on my list of places to visit next year! What's on your Christmas tree?

I usually try to prolong the life of our Christmas tree as long as I can. But since our tree is real, it will sadly start to lose all its needles in a few weeks. I think I will take it down after Ukrainian Christmas which is the second week in January. When are you going to take down your tree?

We usually spend every second Christmas with my family but since both of our families were in Saskatchewan this year, we got to spend some time with both!! One of our highlights of the holiday season was skating on my brother and sister in laws backyard pond. The clear blue skies and the above normal temperatures made for perfect skating conditions! I love coming home to Saskatchewan's wide open prairie. There is something about the vastness that makes me feel so free. Like there is an entire world of endless possibilities just waiting to be discovered! I must admit however, that sitting on the beach looking out into the open ocean gives me the same feeling. Whenever I am feeling a bit homesick for Saskatchewan, I find a little spot on the beach and stare out onto the horizon! I know that a lot of people are scared by wide open spaces and prefer to be surrounded by trees or mountains. Where do you feel most comfortable?

I am sure that you must be getting sick of seeing me in these red jeans but I really have been wearing them a lot as they seem to go with absolutely everything.

Good Bye St. John's

After saying good bye to all of our wonderful friends last week, we left St.John's and started our journey to Saskatchewan. We were lucky enough to be able to stop in Halifax for the weekend to visit some friends. I must say that we had a wonderful time and were so happy that we were able to stop. We ate at some amazing restaurants, went shopping at H & M and even did a little tour out to Peggy's Cove (where the pictures were taken)! We are now in back in Saskatchewan and although it is really nice to be home, I have to say that I am a little homesick for St.John's as I know it will proably be a long time before we are ever back there again.

I bought this pretty Dace raincoat the first day that I was in St. John's and I must say that it really served it's purpose of keeping my dry while looking stylish!! Since it is -8 and snowing here in Saskatchewan, I don't think that I will be wearing my Dace Raincoat until we arrive on the rainy west coast in January!

Copenhagan Christmas Decor

Cottage Clothes

Although I like to pretend I am a big city girl, I must confess that I do enjoy takign a break from the city lights. Last weekend, Dominic and I stayed over night at our friend's cottage in a quaint little town outside of St. John's. They have the most amazing yellow cottage that over looks the ocean and they are the most hospitable people I know. We ate some amazing food including fish tacos and waffles for breaky and we even went for a boat ride on the mean old north Atlantic. I have to say the cold waters scared me a bit and I was glad to be back on dry land again. Anyways, this was my cottage ensemble which I thought suited the occasion perfectly! Do you have a special place you go to get out of the city? And if you do, what do you like to wear??

Now that it is officially Christmas season, I am starting to feel an urge to get my Christmas craft on!! But since we will not home for two more weeks, I will have to wait to put up our tree and decorate our house. Snow Day!!!

One of my favorite things about St.John's is the Snow Day. A Snow Day is when it snows so much over night that the entire city shuts down until the roads can be cleared and people can get out of their houses. Yesterday, was a snow day which meant that we basically had a weekend during the week. If you can believe it, all of the snow in these pictures came in just one day!! Anyways, I took advantage of the snow day by going shopping and I actually bought my Christmas/New Years dress which I am so excited to wear!! After our little shopping excursion we met some friends at the pub for nachos and chatted the day away by watching the snow lightly fall!! It was a perfect day!!

Babylonstoren - A Boutique Hotel

As I have mentioned before, we are moving to Victoria in the new year. We already rented a house there so that we arrive we have a place to go. The upstairs of the house has a loft style bedroom which I am super excited about but also a little worried about how I am going to decorate it. As such, I have been looking for loft style design inspiration and I came across this beauty. It is a Babylonstoren, stylish boutique hotel in South Africa which also doubles as a working farm. So guests can enjoying harvesting food from their garden and cooking it is their stylish abode. I have to say it sounds a lot like our house in Saskatchewan. Ever since I can remember I got pick out a Christmas holiday dress for the upcoming year. So when Christmas decorations start to adorn the streets and Christmas music starts to take over the airways, I start thinking about my Christmas dress. This year, I can't seem to get enough sparkles and sequence. I think these sequence dresses by Blaque Label would be perfect for the holiday season, especially for a new years eve party! I have my eye on a silver one and although it may be a bit much for Saskatchewan, I think I will rock it anyways!!

Down the Block...

Our time in St. John's is quickly running out. I am actually having a hard time believing that in less than 3 weeks we will be gone from here forever. Over the short time that we have been here, I have fallen in love with the city, the culture, the amazing scenery on the Island and most of all, we have met some amazing friends which I will be really sad to leave. But I know that they will be our friends for a lifetime and we will definitely see them again.

As I said before, I had very little space to pack for my trip out here so I am feeling a bit low on my clothing choices, especially necklaces of which I didn't bring any. So although I would have loved to wear a fabulous necklace with this outfit...it is what it is - plain and classic.

I have been taking a lot of photos on my iphone lately and I like the idea of having a iphone photo roundup at the end of the week. So here goes. This weekend we went to our friends cottage which sits on a cliff that over looks the ocean. We had the most amazing time and they were the most gracious hosts.

I loved the display above their fireplace.

They made us the most delicious eggs benedict for breaky!

We went for a hike by the sea in a town called Flatrock and the wind was crazy cold!!

And the waves were crazy strong!

But the view was amazing!

Oh yah, we also saw some massive boulders!

Urban Decay Cheek Tint

I have the most sensitive skin ever, which means that I have a hard time finding make-up that won't burn my eyes and make me break out!! Since there are very little online information about blush for sensitive skin, I thought I would share my new found knowledge on blush for sensitive skin.

Urban Decay's Afterglow Glide on Cheek Tint, which I purchased Quickie, looks amazing and won't make me break out. It is a cream blush which works like a stain. All you have to do is dab a little on the apples of your cheeks with your fingers and voila...your cheeks will be left with a natural glow!! And because it is a cream, you can apply multiple layers for a brighter look or even blend it with other colors to created depth to your look. And the best part is, at least for me, is that it doesn't bother my skin which I think may be due to the lack of shine/sparkles in the blush! Either way it is definitely a winner in my books!

Autumn Leaves

Despite the odd storm here and there, the fall weather out here on the East coast of Canada has been amazing so far. And since we are only out here until the middle of December, we are trying to take advantage of the time we have left out here. We stopped to take these photos while on our way to brunch downtown at Blue on Water, which was delicious by the way. To take the chill off, we brought along some warm chai tea to keep us toasty warm on our walk!! Hope you are enjoying fall as much as I am!!

The Legend of Aino

The Finn's have the most amazing tradition of name giving. The baby is not actually given a name for weeks or sometimes months after the baby is born. During this time, the baby is simply referred to as baby or as in the case of my niece, we called her "the prairie princess" (which her Finnish grandmother came up with). Once the parents get to know the child and choose a name that they think would suit the personality of the baby, they have a baptismal ceremony where they announce the name. And since all of the baby's friends and family are they, everyone gets to find out the name at the same time. We were all so delighted when we found out that our one and only niece was named Aino Sophia. Aino - for her mothers grandmother and Sophia for her fathers grandmother (that is my grandmother too). Not only is it a beautiful name with lots of meaning but there is a Finnish legend of the name Aino which goes as follows.

"Kalevala epic starts with a singing competition between the old and wise Väinämöinen and the young Joukahainen, in which Väinämöinen comes out as the winner. Having lost the singing match and threatened with death, Joukahainen, in his despair, promises his sister Aino in marriage to Väinämöinen in exchange for his life. Aino’s mother, too, takes a favourable attitude towards this promise, but it is a shock to Aino. Driven to desperation, she runs to the lake shore and takes off her clothes to go swimming with the maids of Vellamo. She sits on stone, which sinks, and she drowns. She does not die, however, but continues her life as a maid of Vellamo – a mermaid. Later, when fishing, Väinämöinen catches Aino – landing her as a perch in his boat. When Väinämöinen does not recognize his dead fiancée, she escapes from the boat in the form of a woman, mocking the old man" Source

Wouldn't it be amazing to be named after a traditional legend? What does your name mean?? Are you named after someone or something??

I must start by apologizing for the lack of outfit posts lately but I was busy getting settled in to St. John's living. In addition, I have been feeling a bit low on my outfit choices. It is not that I do not own many clothes, I do, however, I just did not bring that many of them with me to St.John's. I was only able to bring two suitcases with me, and one of those was full of housewares. As a result I kinda feel like I am doing the 30 for 30 challenge, only it is not by choice!! So, to refresh my wardrobe I picked up this cute little number from Joe Fresh! Paired with a chambray shirt, I think it is the perfect outfit fall outfit!!

Come Into My Parlour

I feel like we are really getting into the Halloween season this year. But I am sure that it is just St. John's love affair with all things Halloween that is rubbing off on us. Last night we attended this spooking evening of ghost stories which not coincidentally were all centered around the parlour (which I never knew could be so spooky). Held in an old port cellar, the evening included as amazing glass of Newman's Port which was once aged in the very cellar we heard the stories in. Back in Beautiful St.John's

After six months of bee keeping in Saskatchewan, Dominic and I are back in Beautiful St.John's, Newfoundland! And since Dominic came 2 weeks before me, I was more than elated to be back here!! Sadly, we will only be in St.John's until the end of December at which time Dominic will be finished his Masters of Science. Since we are here for such a short time, we are going to try and take in as much as this amazing little city has to offer!! Our October and November schedule is quickly filling up with great shows, some dinner parties with some wonderful friends and even some cultural events!! But don't worry, I will be sure to keep you posted on the happenings around here!!

Interior Inspiration - How to Style Your T.V!

Dominic and I have never had a T.V before. We always thought that we could be more productive without it because there are so many other things to do besides watching T.V. Nevertheless, we have always watched a lot of movies/t.v shows on our computers. So we finally broke down and bought a T.V so that we could watch movies on a bigger screen. It is not one of those crazy big T.V's but just big enough for us. Now, the only problem is that we need to find a space to put the new T.V. After seeing these homes, I think that I am more partial to hanging the T.V on the wall. How did you incorporate your T.V into your house????

We have had the most beautiful fall in Saskatchewan. The weather was hot, the sun was shining and the color of the autumn leaves were absolutely breath taking. Hence the amazing backdrop!!

If you are a regular follower of my blog, it probably seems like I have been posting a lot of pictures of this tank top. Well, it is true, I have been, but only because I love it. My mom always told me that if you love something, you should be allowed to wear it as much as you would like. And this is definitely the case with this tank top!! I just can't seem to get enough of the sweet little stripes and the soft form fitting cotton that seem to look amazing with everything I pair it with!

The look, which is simply chic and offers an air of confidence is super fast and easy to do. Pull your hair back into a mid of low pony tail and secure it with an elastic, wrapping it around and fastening it with a bobby pin. The messier the better so you really can't go wrong!!! If my hair was a little bit longer, I would totally love to wear this messy bun for fall.

Since the first week of fall is now upon us, I thought I would begin the round up of my favorite fall trends. One of my favorite trends this fall is the wild west. From Lanvin's floppy hats, to Isabel Marant's fringe boots, to Dsquared's salloon girls, there is definitely a western vibe for fall. I think the best way to wear this trend is to limit the western inspired gear and pair it with other 'city' style gear. So saddle up and keep your eyes open for some great western gear!!

Signs of Change

Well fall is finally upon us, which always means big changes around our household. Soon it will be time to pack up our things and head back to the city. We will again be heading back to St. John's Newfoundland which I am so excited about. The city, located on an island off the east coast of Canada, feels like a secret little gem just waiting to be discovered. And although I have enjoyed everything about the prairies this summer, I am excited to smell the humid salty air and hear the amazing sound of the waves crashing up against the shore.

One thing that our life of moving every six months has taught me, is that you have to enjoy and take it your surroundings where ever you are. So for now, I will enjoy the prairie harvest air, the most fantastic sunsets in the world, the the changing colors of leaves to brilliant hues of yellow, orange and red and of course my family which I always miss when I go away!! I am not sure if everybody would enjoy our lifestyle of moving all the time, but I love it and I wouldn't change it for the world.

Isabel Marant vs. Dolce Vita

As some of my dedicated readers may know, I have been in love with these western inspired Dickie boots by Isabel Marant (a french designer) for quite some time. But since they are a bit over my budget and they are virtually sold out every where, I was unable to buy them. Even though I was not able to get the rare single malt scotch of boots (Isabel Marant's), I was able to get the blended Irish whiskey version which are appropriately named Jamison's. And like Jamison's whiskey, they are perfect for everyday use, just as reliable and of course readily available. I ordered them last week and now I am anxiously awaiting their arrival in the mail and I can't wait!!
